Yesterday I braved the pollen laden air to get my veggie garden going. I forked the center of the garden to disturb any incipient weeds and put up a fence for my shelling peas as they are already getting quite tall. I planted butternut squash against the other side of the fence and it can trail down the backside in late summer when the peas are done. I planted an assortment of summer squash, some bush cucumbers and some kale as well as some green beans. If you're wondering why I've got on my rain boots it's in hopes of avoiding any ticks. I've even seen them wandering about the sidewalks this year!
