« Take your needle, my child, and work at your pattern; it will come out a rose by and by. Life is like that - one stitch at a time taken patiently and the pattern will come out all right like the embroidery. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes | Main | Teeny tiny post office »

    Sharp as a tack

4_13_tacks When I saw this tutorial on fabric covered tacks I had to give it a try. I learned to sew when I was pregnant with Chris so I've been at it for over 20 years now and I'm no stranger to the covered button kits. When I tried this with fabric though I wasn't quite satisfied and having just done the embroidery hoop decoupage I decided to give origami paper a try and love how that turned out. I was hoping I could find a bulk pack of these but all I can find anywhere are packages of 7 (these are the size 20, half-inch cover buttons). I'll probably just get two or three packs more. I think if I use a bit more mod podge I can get the paper to smooth out more nicely.

4_13_egg_molds 4_13_eggiesThe postman also delivered my egg molds yesterday. After seeing them on Oiyi's Crafts I went right over to Ebay and bit on a set. There are several of them with the "buy it now" option for $9 plus shipping but I got these for $5 total. I'd still like to get the set with the bunny/bear as well but I'll wait 'til one of those is being auctioned rather than pay 3 times as much for that pair.  The process was pretty simple. First I hard boiled the eggs and peeled them while still hot and then gently squash them into the  mold and submerge in cold water for ten minutes. I used large eggs which seemed perfect for the car but for the fish it was a tad much egg and he needed trimming to look nice.
