Bow bow bow
Jason had meetings into the evening last night and wouldn't be home until after I'd left. Rather than have him pick up pizza again I racked my brain for something that would keep well until he got home and opted for cheese biscuits which would morph nicely into sandwiches. Daniel loved them and requested these for breakfast every morning.
Cheddar biscuits
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
8 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into cubes
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 cups buttermilk
Preheat oven to 400 F. Whisk together dry ingredients in the bowl of a mixer. Cut in the butter until mixture is crumbly. Add remaining ingredients and beat just until combined. Turn out onto a floured board and press out to about 3/4" thickness, cut into rounds. Transfer to a nonstick baking sheet and bake 20-22 minutes or until golden brown.
Earlier this week Daniel was looking at some coasters we have made of slices of wood and decided he needed to go out back, chop down a tree, and make some himself. Being rather attatched to my trees I said no-way-no-how but after some thought I searched for wood online and found these lovelies on E-bay for him. I think they could turn into some very nice coasters indeed and there's enough there for him to get through the learning curve.
Yesterday afternoon we got a bit of snow. I checked the weather around 5 PM and the weatherman professed the storm to be heading off the coast and the snow all done. We awoke this morning to find another 3 inches had fallen during the night, the driveway needed to be shoveled and the cars needed to be cleaned off. This is a bit reminiscent of my first year in Massachusetts when the April Fool's blizzard pounded in and surprised everyone. It'll be in the mid-40's today so I'm thinking this will be gone pretty darn quick. The daffodils are loaded with buds and just waiting for a wee bit of sun to pop out like crazy. Everyone think warm, okay?
